Care Instructions

How do I care for my new Parvanah Collective jewelry?

Below are some guidelines for maintaining the beauty of your new jewelry.

~ Please be gentle and treat your piece with love and kindness. Hard tugs and rough wear may cause the chain or cord to break.

~ Think of your piece as a finishing touch. Adorn yourself with it after you’ve applied any lotions, perfumes, or hair products.

~ Although some will say that gold-filled and sterling silver jewelry is safe to wear in the water, we recommend avoiding this as a general precaution. This is because certain kinds of water can negatively effect precious metals. For example, although you can technically wear silver in water, if it’s a swimming pool with chlorine then your sterling silver can darken. If it’s a hot tub or jacuzzi tub, then it’s even more likely to darken. If it’s salt water then it’s likely to corrode.

~ For jewelry made with cord, make sure to remove your piece before getting wet. Showering, bathing, swimming and the like can weaken the cord and any knotting.

~ We recommend removing precious metal jewelry before sweaty exercise. Depending on the acidity of your sweat, it may result in your precious metals tarnishing quicker.

~ We recommend removing your jewels before sleeping. No one needs their hair tangled up in chain, or even worse, a mid-sleep flail leaving your jewel sad and broken in your bed.

~ To keep your precious metal clean and sparkly, use a cleaning and polishing cloth that is designed for the type of metal used in your jewelry. Try to avoid any gemstones in your jewelry as some are sensitive to the cleaning solution in polishing cloths.

~ For jewelry made with cord you can clean your piece by gently wiping it with a slightly damp cloth.

~ Rotate the wearing of your piece with other jewels in your collection.

~ Store your jewels in a special spot to protect it from being banged or snagged.

How do I care for sterling silver?

~ Wear your sterling silver jewelry often. The oils in your skin help to "clean" the silver.
~ Avoid exposure to household chemicals, perspiration, rubber, chlorinated water, or any substances which contain sulfur (e.g. eggs, mustard, latex, wool)
~ Avoid excessive exposure to sunlight, which tarnishes sterling silver. Remove sterling silver jewelry before sunbathing or swimming.
~ Put your sterling silver jewelry on last, after you've applied any lotions, perfumes, or the like. These products can tarnish your silver.
~ Store your silver individually in plastic bags to reduce scratches and to reduce tarnishing from air. An anti-tarnish strip in the bag is ideal.
~ Use a silver polishing cloth to clean your silver jewelry.

What is "Gold-filled" and how do I care for it?

"Gold-filled" is the term given to sheet, chain, beads, and the like that contain at minimum 5% gold (on the outside) that is bonded by heat and pressure to jeweller's brass (in the core). In comparison, "gold-plated" contained a minuscule layer of gold that is usually around 0.05% gold on the outside. This is the reason why you will often find that with gold-plated jewelry the gold will eventually rub off.

Gold-filled jewelry is easy to take care of. Generally all that is needed is a tiny amount of mild soap to clean the gold, rinse it completely, let it air dry completely, and then gently rub it with a non-abrasive cloth to bring back the shine. You can also find gold jewelry cleaning cloths to clean and gently buff the gold.

Copper naturally tarnishes and forms a patina of sorts on the surface. Although you may like the look of this darker colour (we certainly do!), you may desire to clean your copper if it becomes too dark or starts to form a green tint to it.

[Here is a link] to a web page that describes how to care for copper.

We do not recommend immersing jewelry that is made with cord or has any form knotting as it may loosen the knot or weaken the cord. Instead, follow their recommendation for creating a small amount of paste that you can rub onto the copper (found within Step 2 - Mixing and Applying Your Copper Cleaner).

Custom Malas

Once you’ve purchased a custom mala option I will send you an email within 24 business hours containing a link to our custom mala form. Designing your mala will begin once the completed form is received.

The length of time it takes to create a mala varies based on what kind of design process you choose.

One of the qualities that makes Parvanah Collective malas special is the care and intention behind making them. Each mala is individually designed – no mass production here. I feel deeply about my creative process and know that my best work is made when I have the time and space to create when I am energetically aligned. Thank you for honouring my process.

GUIDED DESIGN

It takes approximately 2 – 5 weeks to complete a guided design mala.

Note: the duration of time depends on how long it takes to receive responses via Etsy conversation, whether I require further clarification, and whether I’m waiting for components of the mala to arrive in the mail. See below for the details of the Guided Design Process.

INTUITIVE DESIGN

It takes approximately 1 – 3 weeks to complete an Intuitive Design mala.

Note: the duration of time depends on whether I require clarification on your custom mala form and whether I’m waiting for components of the mala to arrive in the mail.See below for the details of the Intuitive Design Process.

When can I expect my mala to be completed?

What is an Intuitive Design mala?

Intuitive Design is where I create a divine mala based on key information you give me (don’t worry, I have a form that you fill out that gives me everything I need). With this option you place the design in my hands. This is my most popular option.

Why? Because my clients know that my mala making isn’t rushed and that what is created speaks directly to what they really need.

How? I have a deep-rooted sense of intuition and a gift for seeing and sensing patterns in words and stories. This means that I will take what you’ve written, sit with it, meditate on it, pull some oracle cards, and create your piece when the divine inspiration comes to me. It’s magical. It truly is. Check out our Client Love to read some of the beautiful testimonials from my clients.

All custom malas are a final sale. Custom malas are not applicable for discounts or coupons.

Guided Design is a collaborative process that involves everything in the Intuitive Design with the added layer of two rounds of feedback on mala mockups. Read on for the details.

DETAILS OF THE GUIDED DESIGN PROCESS

Once the questionnaire is received by me I will select focal pieces (e.g. pendant stones, tassels, charms) that I feel align with your questionnaire responses and then send you photos of them to see which one(s) you feel drawn to. After a pendant has been decided on I begin the process of creating a mockup of the rest of the mala – the beads surrounding the focal piece, the counter bead design, and the beads surrounding the top of the mala (the second counter bead section). When that mockup is ready I send you photos and a description of what I have put together. From here we can go through potentially 2 rounds of feedback from you (i.e. feedback from you, I make some changes and send new photos, another round of feedback from you, I make a final mockup). Once the two rounds of feedback* are complete and/or the mala is strung I cannot make any further changes. After the mala is strung and shipped to you I will email you a keepsake PDF that talks about your mala and its meaning along with a photo. Throughout the time we work together I keep you updated with where I am in the design process so that you know exactly what is happening on my end. This process can take from 2 – 5 weeks from receipt of your questionnaire responses to shipping of the mala depending on how quickly we communicate and if additional supplies need to be sourced**.

* I will respond to your feedback within 24 business hours. In order for this to be a mutually fulfilling experience I require my clients to be quick in their feedback, too. All feedback must be received within 3 weeks of the original purchase date. If I do not hear from you I will attempt to contact you two times via the email you provide at time of purchase. If I cannot get a hold of you and/or if I do not receive feedback by 3 weeks post purchase date, then I will create a mala that I feel drawn to create for you and ship it to the address provided at time of purchase. Once the mala is shipped then the order is considered complete.

** I will do my best to source specific stones, but if it is not possible to source them within a reasonable time frame and for a reasonable cost (as determined by me) then I reserve the right to offer alternatives.

All custom malas are a final sale. Custom malas are not applicable for discounts or coupons.
